I finally had a chance to visit these guys. If you're ever in Alameda, be sure and drop by - they're making some great stuff. $10 will get you a sampling of every vodka & liquer they make. Prices for a full bottle are around $40/fifth. Craft distilling, real fruit infused and, as they say, "really serious"
Andy will serve you at their tasting bar and she can tell you all about each brew in detail. I picked up a bottle of the Madarin Blossom but their Kaffir Lime is also very popular. They made a limited run of Wasabi-infused vodka which I had the good fortune to taste but it's all sold out and it's unlikely they'll make another batch. When you put wasabi root into 195 proof alchohol and heat it, you get mustard gas which made making the stuff a bit dangerous.
The night belonged to Hot Lixx Hulahan, a 32-year-old from Alameda, Calif., named Craig Billmeier.
Billmeier wore a black sombrero and began his routine seated, playing a reserved Spanish acoustic part — though he soon leapt into more frenetic playing.
In the second and final round — when six finalists air-guitar to 60 seconds of the same song — Billmeier took things a step further than the rest. When his turn came, he ran through the crowd, up the stairs to the balcony and gyrated directly in front of the judges as plastic cups of beer flew in every direction.
Making our town proud.
